6.3 Event tanning

As you learnt earlier in the course, event tanning requires some additional considerations and, importantly, the use of a specialised ‘apply and wear’ product. This product will contain a high concentration of bronzer and dye to achieve a dark brown hue immediately upon application. Unlike traditional professional spray tanning mists (i.e. your CocoTan Caramel, Original, Violet and Ultra Dark) that are washed off after a tan has had time to develop, apply and wear solutions are, as the name suggests, applied ready for a specific event.

You’ll also recall the various application techniques used for the primary events you will find yourself called upon to apply a stage-ready tan:

Fitness competition tan application technique

Utilising the tanning application technique you learned in Lesson 3.5 Tan application 101, and Lesson 6.2 Spray tanning application, apply three (3) coats of CocoTan Stage Finish to achieve a deep brown tan that will not get washed out in the bright stage lights of a fitness competition.

Dance competition, beauty pageant and cheerleading competition tan application technique

Utilising the tanning application technique you learned in Lesson 3.5 Tan application 101, and Lesson 6.2 Spray tanning application, apply one (1) to two (2) coats of CocoTan Stage Finish to achieve a dark yet natural looking tan.

Runway and photoshoot tan application technique

Utilising the tanning application technique you learned in Lesson 3.5 Tan application 101, and Lesson 6.2 Spray tanning application, apply one (1) coat of CocoTan Stage Finish to achieve a natural looking tan.

Practical Activities

It’s time to practice your event tanning using CocoTan Stage Finish!

1. Find a model and provide them with an apply-and-wear, stage ready tan suitable for a fashion photoshoot using a single coat of CocoTan Stage Finish.
2. Using the same model, add a second coat of Stage Finish to see the result of two coats. This look would be suitable for a dance or cheerleading competition, or a beauty pageant.
3. Again, using the same model, apply a third coat of Stage Finish to see the result of three coats. This look would be suitable for a fitness or bodybuilding competition.
4. Take a series of photos after each coat (be sure to take them under the same lighting conditions) so you can compare the difference!
