6.1 Client preparation

The first part of creating gorgeous looking brows is getting the preparation right! When your clients book their appointments, ask that they prepare their skin 24 hours prior to their appointment by gently exfoliating and by ensuring their skin is hydrated using a quality moisturiser.

At the start of each day, you should allocate sufficient time to set up your treatment area for all of your appointments. When making bookings, always allow enough time in between clients so that you can clean and restock between each service. Workstation setup is absolutely crucial for organisation, time management, and to uphold adequate hygiene and cleanliness standards.

Once your client arrives, you will have a thorough consultation to determine their brow needs, to discuss contraindications and contractions and to determine an appropriate brow shape. Document the outcomes of the discussion on a client consultation form similar to the one you saw in module 3. Once you have your game plan (professionally known as a treatment plan) sorted, the first step is to prepare your client for that perfect brow experience.

Once the clients’ skin is prepped, it is always a good idea to take before photos. Taking before photos can easily be done using a smartphone with a ring light, or you might like to invest in some proper camera gear. Before you take photos, always ask your client if it is ok to do so. If you plan on sharing the results on social media or use them on your website, explicit client permission is a must!

Ok, it’s time to get your supplied training kit out and put it to use!

Just before we do, however, a quick reminder about Practical Exercises. These are, as the name suggests, practical-based activities designed to progressively build your skills (and confidence!) to prepare you for progression onto the next aspect of your training. These activities are not assessed, however they are critical to your development as a professional brow technician, and so we highly recommend you complete these in full prior to progressing any further with this module.

Practical Exercise

Practice prepping the skin and brows on 4-5 (or as many as you can) of your friends and/or family. It you can’t find anyone to practice on, at the very least, carry out the prep steps on yourself. Remember to carry out the steps in the correct order, according to the above video tutorial:

  1. Sanitise duo brow brush
  2. Cleanse brows and surrounding skin using duo brow brush
  3. Exfoliate brows using your fingers
  4. Apply pre-wax mist with a cotton round
  5. Brush brows into place ready to commence your service
