7. Skills hub

In this module, it’s where the fun really begins! Up until now, it has been like building a puzzle – putting all the pieces together one by one. Now that you have a thorough knowledge of all the processes, tools, products, safety requirements and application techniques, you can now begin applying all that knowledge. In this module, you will practice the following looks:

  • Natural (day)
  • Full glam (night)
  • Editorial
  • Bridal: four individual looks, including the bride, bridesmaids, mother of the bride and flower-girl (youth and teen makeup)

When you are selecting your models, try and find a wide variety of ages, ethnicities, face shapes, eye shapes and lip shapes. This will help to ensure that when you start taking on clients, you will have learned how to work with a range of face shapes and variations!

For each of the above seven makeup looks, you will be required to complete a Practical Exercise which will involve you completing each look on a model. Each of these Practical Exercises will be detailed in full in the relevant lesson in this module.

In addition to this, you will also be required to complete and submit three (3) Major Assessment items, which will be a culmination of all seven looks. You will be required to submit each assessment in the order they are offered, and will only be provided with access to the next assessment once you have been deemed competent on the previous assessment. Once again, these assessments will be detailed in full in the relevant lesson, once you have gained access to them ([MA1] is open and accessible from the time of your enrolment).

When you are practising your makeup skills, remember to be patient with yourself. It can be frustrating when we are really trying to nail a new skill, but the reality is, it is unlikely we will be perfect on our first try. Daily practice will help you to remember the steps in each process, will build your muscle memory and will also help you to speed up your techniques. It is also important to remember that speed comes with experience; it is better to be a bit slower and do a thorough job than be really quick and do a dodgy job.

Good luck with the core practical module of your makeup training!
